Haslam's Folly

If you haven’t already heard, Governor Haslam recently appointed Ms. Samar Ali of Waverly, Tennessee to serve as International Director for the of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD).  Ali’s resume includes an internship for the Islamic International Arab Bank in Amman, Jordan, an appointment in the Obama Administration as one of thirteen White House Fellows, and working as an associate specializing in “Shariah–compliant” transactions at the international law firm Hogan Lovells.  She is also a founding member of the first U.S. delegation to the World Islamic Forum.  It was at this event that key Islamic leaders declared Shariah Finance to be a religious responsibility for Islamists.

For those not familiar with the term Shariah, it is described by Islamic scholars as the perfect expression of divine will and justice and thus the supreme law that must comprehensively govern all aspects of Muslims’ lives.  Sources for Shariah are the Koran and other Islamic writings.
In addition to the many brutalities inspired by Shariah, such as honor killings, killing those who dare leave the Islamic faith, and the brutal treatment of women (e.g., genital mutilation, legalized beatings, serving as property of men), Shariah also mandates Jihad!  And, no, Jihad is not some private personal journey to be a better person.  It is a duty to advance acceptance of Islam by all.  In fact, the literal definition of Islam is “submission”, as in Islamists and “infidels” alike must submit to Islamists’ rule.  Shariah teaches that when Islamists achieve enough power to take over a country, most of those who refuse to convert to Islam will be killed.  Christians and Jews are given the option of paying a tax called jizya and living as third-class citizens called dhimmis.  How considerate of them!
All organizations or movements require money to accomplish their goals.  That goes for the Islamists, as well.  Shariah Compliant Finance (SCF) was created by the Muslim Brotherhood – the source for many of the Islamist terror groups currently in existence, including Al-Queda - in the 1950’s.  SCF investments or financial transactions meet the strict religious restrictions of the Koran (such as not investing in financial transactions involving pork, alcohol, drugs, secular music or pornography, among other restrictions) while still providing a means for making a profit.  While that may sound like a virtuous and ethical investment to many, remember that at least some of the profits are used to fund Islamic terrorism.  In fact, the terror attacks of 9/11 were funded at least in part by SCF.  SCF is “Jihad with money“, as one Islamist stated.
By the way, although Ali is well versed in the requirements of Shariah Finance, she won’t actually be making the ultimate determination on whether or not a particular product meets the standard.  That will be done by an expert in Islamic law, quite possibly an Islamist from outside of the USA.  Imagine the outrage if investments were sent to the Vatican to ensure they met the Pope’s standard !
Several American companies are involved in SCF, including Bank of America, Citicorp and AIG just to name a few.   In fact, when the American taxpayer bailed out AIG in 2008, AIG was the largest purveyor of Shariah-compliant insurance products in the world.  Americans should be outraged at American companies that would betray their country for a profit, and it should not be seen as green light for our state to do the same thing.
Apparently, Governor Haslam is comfortable with the distinct possibility - probably more of an inevitability - that at least some of the SCF investments on which he intends to spend taxpayer funds will go to provide funds to the very people who are killing American troops in Afghanistan.  His actions indicate he is okay with the idea that some of our own money will provide the funds that buy the needed components of an IED that will leave an American Soldier in a wheelchair for the rest of his life! Perhaps Haslam is okay with the mothers, fathers, wives, sons and daughters who will be left behind with a hole that can never be filled and wound that can be fully healed.  Apparently, Governor Haslam sees that as a calculated risk worth the potential financial gain for those who profit from Shariah.
In a 1991 memo discovered by the FBI in a raid in Annandale, Virginia in 2004, Mohamed Akram (a.k.a Mohamed Adlouni), a member of the Shura Council of the Muslim Brotherhood, wrote, “The process of settlement is a Civilization- Jihadist Process with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Arabic for Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of a grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers.”
When we adopt Shariah Compliant Finance, we provide the hand mentioned by Mohamed Akram.  Sleep well, Governor!

Ali Appointment
Ali Confirmation

In addition to the threat SCF poses to our country you have to wonder how hard Samar Ali will work to promote certain sectors of Tennessee's economy to other countries in her new position. Hard to believe she would be a reliable promoter of Tennessee's pork industry. Of course anything involving Christian music or publications would be unlikely to receive an honest effort on her part either. I wonder if this appointment will lead to an increase in businesses owned by Islamist popping up all over  Tennessee. In fact what better way to open the flood gates than place a SCF expert in this position as a signal for Islamist everywhere to flood Tennessee and set up shop.
Or maybe it would be more subtle like the hiring or promotion of Islamist into key positions within large and mid size companies across the state. Now that of course would be coming from the private sector instead of the government but the appointment certainly  makes the statement that Shariah Compliant businesses will be welcomed by the Governor and others in his administration with open arms. As more arrive their their financial and political clout will increase as well.
The Governor so far is standing by his appointment of Samar Ali to the detriment of our state and country. He recently tried to frame this as a freedom of religion issue. I'm sure that would be inspiring to the thousands of recent converts from Islam to Christianity that face the very real threat of death in accordance with Shariah Law  for leaving Islam.
Sleep well, Governor.

In May of 2011, House Bill 1353 and Senate Bill 1028 were overwhelmingly approved by the Tennessee House (76-16) and Senate (26-3).  These twin acts of legislation, known as the Material Support to Designated Entities Act of 2011 bill and modeled after a Federal act upheld by the Supreme Court, were later signed into law by Governor Bill Haslam, thereby becoming Public Chapter No. 497 in Tennessee law.
Governor Haslam’s signature on this law signified his acknowledgement of the inherent danger to Tennesseans from those who may not be directly involved in acts of terrorism, but instead enable terroristic activities through their direct or indirect material support.  Though extensive debate on the original bills led to the removal of references to “sharia” and “jihad”, groups like the Council on American Islamic Relationships (CAIR), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Interfaith Alliance, and the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) fought the implementation of legislation criminalizing the support of terrorism every step of the way.  Their opposition was entirely logical when you consider that the leadership of CAIR were unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land trial that led to the conviction of Islamist terrorist financiers who were laundering money through zakat (Islamist charities).
The need for the protections provided in the Material Support Bill were summarized by Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Bill Ketron and House Speaker Pro Tempore Judd Matheny in an interview with The Tennessean in which Matheny noted, “Tennessee, like the federal government, has a compelling state interest to protect our citizens from jihad terrorism.  The incidence of homegrown terrorism is rising and our local and state law enforcement officers are on the frontlines in preventing such attacks.  Tennessee’s current law addresses terrorism after the fact.  This legislation aims to prevent acts of terrorism before they occur.”
The Material Support Bill itself clarifies the need when stating, “The general assembly finds that this state has a compelling state interest in preventing terrorism within its borders, and the targeted prohibitions set forth in this part are meant to be a focused and least intrusive method for this state to protect its residents from such threats. The general assembly further declares that this part neither targets, nor incidentally prohibits or inhibits, the peaceful practice of any religion.”
"Material support or resources" for designated terrorist organizations is defined in the bill to mean “...any property, tangible or intangible, or service, including currency or monetary instruments or financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, safe houses, false documentation or identification, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, transportation, and personnel;”
By their very nature, both Shariah compliant finance and zakat lack the transparency typically mandated by law for other financial instruments and charities.  Since Shariah compliant finance and zakat have also repeatedly been shown to be used to provide material support or resources to such designated terrorist organizations as Hamas, Hezbollah, Al-Queda and the Taliban, it is only reasonable that Tennesseans ask the question as to why an activist advocate of Shariah compliant finance is seen as an asset in the administration of Governor Haslam.
Not to disparage Ms. Samar Ali on a personal level, but surely Commissioner Bill Hagerty and Governor Haslam could have selected a candidate to manage Tennessee’s international trade offices whose background is more in line with supporting and promoting Tennessee industry, not Islamist finance.  The fact that they did not do so, begs the question ‘why not’?
Perhaps Governor Haslam would like to directly answer the question of why Ms. Ali was selected over seemingly more qualified candidates instead of implying any who seek accountability for the decisions he makes on our behalf are seeking to deny others their freedom of religion.  Such a response from Governor Haslam sounds more like the strawman diversions we have come to expect from those firmly entrenched on the Left.  Perhaps someone on Governor’s Haslam’s staff has been giving him pointers from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, or perhaps he has already forgotten the commitment he made when signing the Material Support bill.....

At some point in time before signing the Material Support Bill, Governor Haslam had to have had some understanding of SCF. While the bill applies to other forms of support and is neutral where ideology is concerned it is hard to believe that he wasn't introduced to the concept when the bill was debated. Whether he is easily deceived, has taken bad advice, or Samar Ali was poorly vetted the result is the same. In an age of Islamic terror with the Federal Government having already proven that it is too politically correct to be trusted (the Fort Hood Massacre is described as "workplace violence" and all references to Islamic terror have been removed from training programs) the one person whose leadership is needed in this area fails our state and fails miserably.  It will be ironic but not suprising to find out someday  that this appointee has become the poster child for why the Material Support Bill was needed.

The link below is to a must-read article regarding not only the Murfreesboro mosque, but how Islamists are pushing to establish their dominance in Tennessee (and the US, for that matter):
Mysterious Money and Motive Behind Monster Mosque in Murfreesboro

For those not familiar with Eric Allen Bell, he is a documentary film maker and formerly a self-described liberal.  His original involvement with the Murfreesboro mosque was as one supporting the Islamists.  During the process of covering the issues surrounding the mosque, Bell's eyes were opened to the truth of both Islam and the character of those involved in the mosque.  His reporting on this is probably the most extensive available.

If he thinks this is going to fly in this state he is horrilby wrong. Wish we could get it to everyone, our Son's n Daughters over there, where I just got a call from actually are fighting against this ignorance.
